EDIBLE COLOR WHEEL

Today my Art One students did their second color wheel but there was a twist to this one or should I say a "taste"? After having painted a color wheel as individual projects I decided for them to work on a collaborative color wheel. This was one made with cookies, icing and cake coloring instead of paint. And afterwards, they were able to eat it. This is a project that my Art One students seem to really like and so do I. Below are the directions that I gave to each group. Hope you enjoy the photographs as much as the kids enjoyed the project.

INSTRUCTIONS FOR MAKING EDIBLE COLORWHEEL

1) Divide white icing into three equal portions

2) Thoroughly mix the red cake coloring into one of the portions

3) Thoroughly mix the yellow cake coloring into another one of the portions

4) Thoroughly mix the blue cake coloring into the final portion

5) Cover one of the cookies with each of these three primary colors

6) You will now have one red, yellow and blue cookie

7) Then divide each of the three colored portions into three smaller equal portions

8) Now mix the secondary colors - orange, green and purple, by combining two primary colors.

9) Mix orange by combining one portion of red with one portion of yellow

10) Mix green by combining one portion of blue with one portion of yellow

11) Mix purple by combining one portion of red with one portion of blue

12) Cover one of the cookies with orange, green and purple

13) Put the six covered cookies into a circle making sure they are in the correct color wheel order

14) Now mix the tertiary or intermediate colors which are: red orange, reddish purple, blue green, bluish purple, yellow green and yellow orange

15) You should have enough remaining colored portions in order to mix the above remaining six colors

16) When thoroughly mixed, cover one cookie with each of the tertiary or intermediate colors

17) Now place all twelve colors in a circle making sure that they are in the correct color wheel order

18) If by chance you have forgotten the order, here it is:

R, RO, O, YO, Y, YG, G, BG, B, BP, P, RP, etc.

Let me see your color wheel after it is complete so that I can take a photograph of it and the artists that created it.

Once I give you the OK, you can then eat your masterpiece! CONGRATULATIONS ON A JOB WELL DONE!

I'LL HAVE IT SUPERSIZED PLEASE

This is a term that we all are familiar with since McDonald's commercials on TV. Well my Arts and Technology class used this as a theme for one of their projects. Here are two examples. I think Quanisha and Chad did a wonderful job of supersizing it!

AWESOME SUNSET

I just happened to have my camera in the car this past Friday evening when I saw this extraordinary sunset. I wanted to share it with you all. And who says God isn't an artist?

Mr. Hewett

YOU ARE WHAT YOU EAT!

Last week my Arts and Technology class did a project that told me a lot about themselves. They had to digitally turn themselves into their favorite food. Wow what some awesome pictures I got. I wanted to share three of them with you. Chad really likes tacos, Amber loves subs and Donovan obviously likes Chinese food and I've never seen them looking better! Way to go!
