PHOTOS FROM TURKEY DAY SIX (part 2)

After leaving Ephesus we went on to have lunch at a beautiful restaurant in Karacasu. We ate outside on the porch as we were entertained by a man singing. One of our teachers, Gary, was lucky enough to get some free pointers on playing his musical instrument that he purchased when in Istanbul. Then on our way to our first state supported school, Atakoy Ilkogrettim Okulu, also in Karacasu. This was a small four room school in a very small village. Even though it was Saturday, there were a few students there to meet us along with the school principal. Some of us brought small gifts for the school and students. All of these were very appreciated. As I mentioned this was a four room school; however, one of those rooms housed a computer lab that rivaled anything we have in my school. Was I ever surprised!!! We were told by Orhan that children in small schools like this got better educations than those in larger schools in urban areas. Why? Because the larger schools are on double schedules and students only attend half days whereas the students at small schools attend all day.
