PHOTOS FROM TURKEY DAY TWO (part 3)

Finally we reached our destination which was Arnavutkoy. We had a very nice lunch at a restaurant on the banks of the Bosphorus. In the photo you can see that huge cargo ships were constantly sailing to the Black Sea which was about five miles away. After lunch we got back on our bus. From here we were going to cross the bridge connecting Europe with Asia. The sights along the way were spectacular. After crossing over into Asia we went to Uskudar. Here we visited the home and studio of one of the leading ebru artists of Turkey, Mr. Hikmet Barutcugil. By the way, ebru is the ancient art of paper marbling. I have several photos of Mr. Barutcugil and his work. The young lady holding one of his paintings was his assistant. Paper marbling is done by floating colors of paint on top of water and then placing paper or cloth on top of it. The colors are manipulated in several ways in order to create beautiful swirling designs. Once the paper or cloth is removed the image is transferred resulting in the completed piece.
